Lend me your ear...

Hey, could I get some reaction on this from a few impartial judges? Just think of it as blogger idol. I need a few Simon Cowell types to tell me what they think. The following is a song of mine produced and sung by a friend, as we work toward a final mix. I won't say anything of what I am thinking so as not to bias you, but if you would, give it a listen and give your reaction. And don't worry about the goofy lyrics at the end, that was just having fun...

And anonymous comments are perfectly welcome, possibly preferred.

Here is the mix.

I've tried to listen but the song gets caught on a stutter. Is that this computer's problem or something else?

Hmmm. I don't know. I will try it from some other computers and see what happens...

Reminded me of Peter Salett, a la "Heart of Mine". It would fit well as a movie-theme song where the couple is going through some sort of agnst. Good hooks, and rhythm - catchy but kept waiting for a big build in terms of the chorus or bridge or something I could latch onto to say "this is the best part", especially last part where you build up to "I just hope it turns out alright" - but instead of keeping it big, you start the fade really quickly. Personally, I would say let the listener enjoy what you've built to and give them something there to glam onto - even 8 bars of serious thick harmonies and full band - then you can fade later.... but that's just my personal opinion! (a la Simon Cowell)

I remember this little number. Liked it then, like it now! You have done some nice arranging on it. Dropping back down to just vocals and acoustic near the end is a brilliant touch. Provides some nice dynamics. I love the lyrics as well. It sure makes me wonder who it's about, though:) The only suggestion I have is the addition of a more powerful guitar sound for the last time through the chorus. It feels like it could benefit from a heavier power-chord style underneath what is already there. I know you have the electric playing some more delicate solo stuff, but it feels like it needs a big lift after that acoustic breakdown I mentioned earlier. Andrew did that kind of thing with some of your other stuff on your CD. I am thinking of a kind of gritty guitar sound, though...nothing heavily compressed but more natural. The song is very much like the stuff of the Jayhawks, a band from Minneapolis. Check out some of their stuff and you might find a sound or two that works for you.

Good song overall. When does the CD come out?
